For Those Tired of Holding It Together — or Trying To

To explore Where God Meets Man by Gerhard Forde is to step into a very different way of thinking about God.

Most of us assume that if we are going to know God, we must somehow rise to meet Him through reason, moral effort, spiritual discipline, or religious experience. Forde patiently dismantles that instinct. He shows how these efforts, however sincere, ultimately turn Christianity into a project of self-preservation.

Instead, Forde insists on something far more radical: God does not wait to be discovered. God comes down. God meets us.

And where does this meeting happen? Not in speculation, not in our upward striving, but in the concrete, unexpected place where God has chosen to reveal Himself: above all, in the cross of Jesus Christ. There, Forde argues, we see both the truth about ourselves (that we resist God even at His most merciful) and the truth about God (that He justifies the ungodly anyway).

This book is not an abstract theology text. It is an invitation to let go of the need to climb up to God and instead to hear the startling claim that God has already come all the way down to you and for you in Christ.

That is where God meets man.

Our ZOOM class resumes on Tuesday, April 21. Join us!
