THE FALLING LEAVES
The falling leaves remind us how much of life we cannot keep, however tightly we close our hands. Christ knows those hands, the things they cling to, the things they have lost, and opens his own, scarred by his love for us. As the branches grow bare, his promise remains: you are forgiven, and he will not let you go.

COME TO ME
Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” There is always one more burden to carry, and religion can easily become another one. Sometimes it is the heaviest burden of all. But Jesus does not tell the weary to try harder; He says, “Come to me.” You do not have to get yourself together before coming to Christ. He gives the rest He promises.

CASE CLOSED
Romans 8:1 — “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Your conscience may reopen the case. Other people may present new evidence. You may become your own most relentless prosecutor. But Paul announces the verdict before any of them can speak: no condemnation. And because the Judge himself has rendered it, there is no higher court of appeal.

Forgiveness Has Your Address
Mark 2:5 - Forgiveness can be treated as a verdict we may accept once we have suffered enough to deserve it. The conscience keeps the account open, as though another sleepless night might contribute something Christ overlooked. But Jesus speaks to the paralytic in the gospel story before the man has offered any record of improvement: “My son, your sins are forgiven.” The authority of that word belongs to the Savior who will bear sin himself; it does not depend on the man’s ab

IT IS FINISHED MEANS FINISHED
John 19:30 — “When Jesus had received the wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’” Religion always wants one more thing from you: another improvement, another promise, another proof that you deserve to be forgiven. But Christ does not say, “I have done my part; now do yours.” He says, “It is finished” and your salvation rests in his completed work, not your unfinished life. Today, you may go about the work that needs doing without making it the price of God’s love.

GOD IS NOT KEEPING SCORE
2 Corinthians 5:19 — “In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them.” We are inveterate scorekeepers with ourselves, with others, and especially with God. Paul announces something astonishing: in Christ, God has put the ledger away. Not because the sins did not matter, but because Christ has taken them upon himself. The account has not been balanced by our repentance, our improvement, or our promises to do better. It has been c

He Ran First
Luke 15:20 — “But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him.” The son comes home with repentance rehearsed and a deal to propose. But the father runs, embraces, and kisses him before the speech can do any work. Grace does not wait to see whether your repentance is sincere enough. Christ simply gives the sinner back your name: son or daughter, child of God. All your bargaining dies in the fa

You Don't Have to Qualify
Romans 4:5 — “But to one who without works trusts him who justifies the ungodly, such faith is reckoned as righteousness.” Still working on your best self? That's understandable. There is always something to work on, it seems. At the same time, it's an endless project. At least it can feel like one. We don't usually think of being anything less the best self as 'ungodly' but if we are not our best self then we are, at least, something less than that. But here is good news. Go
